Did he hear them, too?

The dead still speak to me.
How about you?
As I prepared my Palm Sunday message I could hear them. Perhaps he did, too?
Lord Jesus, as the crowd shouted their hosannas, were there other voices that you heard?
Did the threat made to the serpent in the Garden echo down through time to you? He will crush your head, and you will strike his heel. That time had come at last.
Lord Jesus, as the crowd shouted their hosannas, were there other voices that you heard? Did Abel’s blood cry out for justice? And what about poor Job? Did his agony rise about the din? I know that my Redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand upon the earth.
What a price you had to pay. Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree. Moses’ strange prophecy about to come true. Cursed for one and all were you.
Lord Jesus, as they shouted their hosannas, did you hear long dead voices, loud and clear?
Arise! Deliver me, O my God!
You are the answer to all prayers.
For the sake of your name, O Lord, forgive my iniquity, though it is great.
To you I call, O Lord, my Rock, do not turn a deaf ear to me. For if you were to remain silent, I will be like those who gone down to the pit.
My guilt has overwhelmed me like a burden too heavy to bear.
O dearest Jesus, could you already feel the weight of the cross as you rode the colt that day?
Amidst the loud hosannas, did voices cry out from the grave?
Hear my prayer, O Lord, listen to my cry for help; do not be deaf to my weeping. Hear, O Lord, and answer me, for I am poor and needy. Will the dust praise you? Will it tell of your faithfulness?
Did you hear them as you drank the bitter cup?
But I’m getting ahead of myself. Let our hosannas fill this space. Blessed are we, O Lord, for you came for the likes of us.
HOSANNA! BLESSED IS HE WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE LORD! HOSANNA IN THE HIGHEST!
Still, I can’t help but wonder. What was on your mind that day?
Did Micah whisper in your ear? Who is a God like you, who pardons sin and forgives transgression.
While you were on trial, did Ecclesiastes’ desperation move you to tears?
The voices of the dead sometimes speak the loudest:
In wrath, remember mercy.
Habakkuk’s plea, about to be answered at last.
Dearest Jesus, as the crowd shouted their hosannas, were there other voices that you heard? I like to think that Solomon had your ear. You were about to prove him right.
For love is as strong as death, its jealousy unyielding as the grave. It burns like the blazing fire, like a mighty flame. Man waters cannot quench love; rivers cannot wash it away.
HOSANNA! BLESSED IS HE WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE LORD! HOSANNA IN THE HIGHEST!
